The Nark is awesome

Great vibes, good fun, fun tunes, good people. Loved playing there.

Busted out a pretty hard set in the end and the floor seemed to love it. Awesome.

PS - the Chemical Brothers blew my mind!

PS II - Next Dj set'll be totally different from tonight; playing post-bands at Cossie Club @ Whammy on Saturday night - expect old rock n roll, old r'n'b, soul, rare groove jams from "late" till "even later".

NARK after Chems

Ha - The Nark described me as "Auckland’s crowned king of Indie electronica, and potentially the man most excited for the impending Chemical Brothers gig in all of the city" when they booked me to play on Wednesday night at NARK After Chems this week at Third and Social.

It is true that I am excited. I might drop this lil banger by the legendary Mr Oizo and Gaspard Auge (one half of Justice)

Big ups to Rebecca Maxine who I do the Quay Street Social Club Radio Show every Tuesday 6-8pm for showing me that tune!

I don't play Dave Dobbyn. Ever.

Last week I was playing one of my favorite club nights to DJ at - Teenage Kicks an "indie" club night every Wednesday at Cassette - I play there once a month, pretty much. And it's always heaps of fun - busting out those indie bangers and slipping in some new tunes.

But this one dude came over to the DJ booth at about 3am and was "hey bro! bro! .... hey bro!" (I was kinda busy cueing up a track, so didn't leap to attention immediately for him)

"Hey mate - whats up?" I finally acknowedged - to be honest expecting that he would say play some dubstep. DOn't get me wrong I really like *SOME* dubstep - but y'know not in the middle of an 'indie' set - it's just not going to work.

But no, it was worse...

"Play Dave Dobbyn Loyal, bro"

"No"

"Why not?"

"I don't want to"

"Do you have it?"

"No"

*incredulous look from punter*

*mimicked incredulous look back from DJ*

Just say NO to DOBO

Blog is back

Ok.. so I've kinda let this blog slide - but it's time to come back!

So, on Friday night I had a ball DJing at the Orientation Gig for Auckland Uni - with a fun-filled line up of Kids of 88, Zowie, Computers Want Me Dead, Pikachunes and O'Lovely.

Was heaps of fun and if you were one of those crazy dancers during my sets - thank you, you were awesome!

I played a party-style set including shizz like Crookers, Natalie Storm, Zinc, Kid Cudi, The Knocks, Yeasayer, Nas and Damian Marley, Camo & Krooked and Sub Focus but even some Gaga, Beyonce and Akon got slipped into the mix! Ha!

These two numbers made the kids explode:

I'm playing on a boat, muthaflipper!

This Saturday I am deejaying on Saturday afternoon for the launch party of Big Fish.

Big Fish is a Luxury Expedition Vessel from Aquos Yachts, was successfully launched March 31st down the ways of New Zealand's premier motor yacht builder, McMullen & Wing. The launch of the 45M steel-hull yacht - the largest ever at McMullen & Wing - took almost three days to accomplish. The Hong Kong-based owner of Big Fish was on hand to name his vessel and to celebrate the launch with a fine bottle of Kiwi champagne smashed over the yacht's bows just minutes before she touched salt water for the first time.

Also flying above the Hong Kong flag draped over the bow rail was a burgee of the International SeaKeepers Society, whose ocean monitoring equipment the yacht will proudly carry as she begins a historic polar circumnavigation cruise starting in July.
